It's certainly a pleasant surprise that the runner-ups got their pieces inked, and everyone else got sketches. And so well detailed! It's amazing, babe. ... ... ... Nee, Cait, someone, get to work on a clapping smilie, please. XDDD

I didn’t sleep much at all the last few nights. I’ve been going to bed between 3 and 4 am... then getting up again at 7am. BUT last night I went to bed early and got caught up on sleep XD

The sick ones are finally better. Ally Kat had her last dose of medicine yesterday.

These pics are all really awesome, Poecat! And I see a common theme in the illustrations for "A Prophecy Reclaimed" and "An Ally on the Outside". Don't get on Callie's bad side--or her ancestor's. CallieKissIcon2

Well, I don’t think you’ve missed a beat MadkatUpIcon

I really enjoyed this story as it teased the notion of the SWAT Kats’ initial motivations being less than altruistic in their pursuit of… not quite revenge, but definitely some kind of comeuppance in those they view as having wronged them.

I really appreciate the characters' use of their own internal logic to justify their actions, particularly this line:

Spoiler:
This was all the hangar's fault. Without the hanger, there would be no place to build the jet. It was the fault of the salvage yard. Without it, there would be nothing to build the jet with. It was Feral's fault.
The characters, Jake in particular, are portrayed with a great deal of nuance and deliberate imperfection, which made this a nice little read. And, the explanation of the “unresolved” elements, including their design choices was a fun back-and-forth. Even Feral gets his moment in this story, which was a nice peak into an event that was no doubt viewed differently by those involved.

The idea you present of them being motivated to become vigilantes over a sense of vindication, and then through time, experience and maturity, transitioning that into a sense of duty was a great theme to explore (and is coincidentally pretty much how I view those two).

A lot of the motif and tones present in Masks seem to carry over into this particular work, and I can’t help but wonder if perhaps you see this as an introduction to the continuity of your series?

Will be posting feedback to other stories, too.

Well thank you. Writing Swat Kats sometimes feels like coming home. And sorry it took me so long to respond. January has been crazy busy.

There are times when feel like the Swat Kats get away with more carelessness and irresponsibility than they get called out on. I have heard other fans express the same opinion. The only attempt the show made to rectify this was Razor's Edge and well... it wasn't a good attempt. I wish we would get to see some lessons learned and character growth perhaps in the new series and this story was somewhat more wishful thinking on that. But I do feel the thoughts and motivations that pushed most of Mantra forward is close to the ego of Razor and T-Bone that we do see in the show.

I wouldn't consider this story to be an intro to Masks, but definitely within the same universe. As you pointed out, there is a related thread of thought that ruminates on various facets of life as a vigilante that is seen in both stories.
