Just when I thought the movie industry couldn't dig itself deeper...

‘Emoji Movie’: Is Anyone Really Trying Anymore?

Anything can be a movie these days, including those little digital icons on your phone that express emotion — known as emojis. Though it would seem to be a new low for Hollywood studios to be adapting emojis into a film, it’s happening. For proof, please refer to the recently released and somehow very real trailer.

If that sounds bad, it get's worse...

Patrick Stewart to Voice Poop Emoji in 'Emoji Movie'

On the plus side it seems people are already discontent with the idea considering that the teaser trailer has only about 7.5K thumbs up as opposed to its ~66.4K thumbs down.

Here's a link to the YouTube trailer. Not because the trailer is so good, but because the snark in the comments tearing it a new one!

Link to the trailer of this sad excuse for a film.

I was actually thinking of you not going to the movies when I heard about this. :P

(Hesitant to give you a heart though because of gun-to-head image...)

Oh, and before I forget: I mentioned on Starfox-Online about how this reminds me of the "shovelware" phenomenon that killed the American video game industry in the early 1980's. Only this time it's cinema.

Last time I went to movies was, after like 4 years not stepping into a cinema, for Ratchet and Clank movie (and I somehow regret it).

And don't worry, that gun doesn't have bullets, it just releases my inner beast to destroy the world...

Would I be allowed to bump this when the critical reviews and box office figures come in? TboneSmile

The shine of Tinseltown has faded so much from the golden age of cinema. Don't get me wrong there have been a number of great films these last few years. Sadly, for every one grest movie there are a dozen mediocre ones.

The real sad thing... RazAfraid sigh... Sony had a friggin' bidding war to get to make this movie. They along with Paramount and Warner Bros. managed to get the amount to a seven figure sum! That's right! Before they even made the movie, they paid a seven figure sum to make a film about stylised smilies!

Let's face it guys, movies are half good, half crap, and when one comes along that's truly great, it's a miracle.

I believe this TV Tropes entry is pertinent here: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/D ... mentOfSuck

For those three media conglomerates this is a collective Dethroning Moment of Suck (mostly for Sony, but plenty for the other two as well).

Another thing I found out is that the animated Popeye movie was placed on the backburner for this film. Though judging by the fact that Sony decided to go ahead with Emojis: the Movie makes me wonder if that was actually a good thing.
