Ridiculous Moments

Post by MoDaD » Tue Mar 10, 2015 12:08 am

While SWAT Kats is regarded around these parts with lots of admiration, if we're to take a step back and look at things more objectively, what do you think were some of the more ridiculous or head-scratching moments of the show? These can be specific instances or scenes, or overall concepts or themes.

Here's one of mine:

I know it's been pointed out by others before, but one scene that always stood out as ridiculous (amid other ridiculous things no less) was the scene in the climax of The Giant Bacteria where T-Bone crashes the Turbokat into Megakat Biochemical to interrupt Dr. Viper's altercation with Callie:

And the corresponding escape that takes place impossibly quickly:

It didn't seem so much cartoon-ish as lazy to me, as if the writers/director/production people couldn't come up with something better (or were short on time and unable to do something better that they meant to do).

Not gonna lie, the... the entire show is like that to me xD It's completely ridiculous, from Ann Gora's earrings to Callie's non-functional safety goggle "glasses" to the SWAT Kats fighting barefoot, like. I'm gonna have fun with this thread later, no joke, but like. The question itself is almost overwhelming to initially address xD

Well, if it helps to narrow it down, maybe we can define ridiculous as within the context of the show, where the established suspension of disbelief is surpassed :D

Hmm well a few come to mind... and they are all T-Bone's doing. LOL that boy is reckless! XD The first is the one you mentioned, crashing and somehow landing and not KILLING Callie with either the jet or the glass/debris is one.

The second I've mentioned before in another thread about T-Bone tossing Ann to the Agracite scorpion in Caverns of Horror episode. Seriously that was so nuts and I still say Ann should've been more ticked off, at least at that moment. She could forgive later after getting her out maybe.

The third was in Cry Turmoil, where T-Bone in order to throw suspicion off himself for a few moments to get clear of Turmoil's guards, goes and punts Razor out the cargo bay doors. LOL Luckily Razor's glovatrix line was long enough and he was quick enough to have it grip to propel himself upwards. Even Razor himself complained on that one "Did you have to kick me so hard?!" XDDD I think they could have distracted them without him punting Razor out, it wouldn't be any less dangerous to have like thrown him towards the guards. I guess they wanted an extra moment of shock for the viewers of "has T-Bone really gone bad now?" or something.

One thing I thought was strange in episode 1 is that Razor somehow managed to modify the Turbokat's fuel tanks to allow volcanic lava to fuel it. Once, when my friend Nick and I were watching through the show over Skype, after Razor explains his reasoning for why his plan will work, Nick says, "Uh, Razor, that's not how jets work." Still cracks me up. XD

This is the only time I can recall in the entire series that them being barefoot actually was a benefit. From Destructive Nature where Razor rescues Callie from the jungle that is Megakat Tower. He uses his toes to help climb up the vines, one of the more cat like things he's done aside from hacking up a hairball. XD

LOL I've heard a lot of folks say that, and from how I understand it, yeah I don't think that would have worked either... maybe Razor's "or blow us up" was the more realistic thing to happen from doing that. -g-

YEAAAH I was pretty skeptical of that as a kid, and that scene was particularly funny and painful to watch as an adult xD

How 'bout when they grab people with (what Lance Falk's script for the unproduced Blow Out calls) the Sky Claw? They should've broken Morbulus' neck with that sudden stop, and snapped Manx's spine "rescuing" him in The Ghost Pilot!

That's a very good point, and one that appears in lots of action/superhero fiction. If I'm not mistaken, that's exactly how Gwen Stacy died when Spider-Man attempts to save her.
