How & When Did You First See The Show?

Post by MoDaD » Wed Dec 16, 2015 6:06 pm

If I recall correctly, the first time I saw SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron was either in 1998 or 1999, Thanksgiving Weekend, when Cartoon Network was running one of their "Super Chunks" (their term for an afternoon marathon) of the show, which I happened to catch during some downtime. I think I was in my mid-to-early teens (Junior High) at the time. It was really cool, because I got to watch a whole bunch of the show at once, catching the tail end of The Pastmaster Always Rings Twice and seeing a lot of the Mook animated second season episodes - I vividly recall seeing Mutation City, A Bright and Shiny Future, The Dark Side of the SWAT Kats, The Origin of Dr. Viper and Unlikely Alloys. I was blown away by the animation, the anime-influenced design choices, the cool vehicles and most memorably THE MUSIC - love that season 2 intro a lot. I've always viewed it as a testament to the show being ahead of its time, because I thought it was a brand new (or at least currently in-production) show, and much to my surprise at the time, found out it had come out about 5 years prior and was cancelled.

Oh God, memory lane. Jeez. I must have been at least like, 7 years old? Maybe 8, tops. So 1995-ish. At first I saw a promo for a Swat Kats marathon on Cartoon Network that burned its way into my brain (never found out which one it was) and it was just, WAY cooler than the other action cartoon I liked around the time and was burnt out on (Bucky O'Hare) and could see more of it than I ever could of our short VHS of Thundercats. So I watched out for the marathon and the first episode I saw was Mutation City. After that I was basically a little swat kats addict, LOL, recording episodes on VHS (which I still have and should rewatch sometime, for the nostalgia) and pausing the tape all the time to study the screen and draw what I saw, my first sketchbook was filled with those guys!! :-) that show got me to seriously draw, and it's a bad habit I still have ;) LOL

When I was still living in the Caribbean I only watched it in passing back in '95 (also was 8) but even back then I never forgot the rad music and art style.

I watched it through for the first time as an adult and it was like a long, lost family member :D

I walked in on my sister watching it in my parents' bedroom in 1993, where they had a big TV. There were two cats in a jet chasing a guy with eyes in the back of his head. I was intrigued and sat down and promptly had the living daylights scared out of me. I watched the show off and on from then on!

As I tend to be lazy I just quote what I've written in my introduction post. ;)
Mr. Goodkat wrote:The first time I saw SWAT Kats was around 1995 on Cartoon Network UK. Back then I was 16 years old and watched a lot of cartoons there because I thought it would be a good way to start practicing my English. If I hadn't, this series probably would have never caught my attention because it was never aired in Germany as far as I know.

I think I got so excited about the show because it's about cats... I mean kats... combined with a lot of action, cheap jokes and crazy stories that I could never take seriously. [...] Besides the essential role that cats play in my life I think it's thanks to their voice actors that I liked T-Bone and Razor so much.
One thing I can add is that I first saw the second season in spring 2014 when I've watched my DVD collection for the first time. Don't know for sure if these episode had been aired later on Cartoon Network UK when I didn't watch it regularly anymore or if I simply missed that episodes. But I guess it was the first. So, this was kind of a second "First see" 20 years later.

The first episode I saw? Hmm, that's actually tough for me to answer. But when I watched my DVDs I remembered the storylines of The Pastmaster Always Rings Twice, Bride Of The Pastmaster and Destructive Nature (actually one of my favorite episodes) best for some reason.

I was probably four, maybe five when I saw my first episode, Giant Bacteria. After a new pair of underwear, I sat through a short marathon leading to me loving the daylights out of Bride of the Past Master. Easily my favorite episode storywise.

I don't know which was the first episode I ever watched, but I know I was about 6-7 years old (1996-7) when I saw the Swat Kats on the big screen. I remember the Giant Bacteria as well, because it was that one kids' show that indirectly showed people dying off-screen (and that poor cow being swallowed alive... not a good way to die  )

In my case i was just bored, with no animes left to watch. I just remember discovering an image on deviantart of 2 cats that seemed like heroes or something (i LOVE cats! <*_*>) with "from Swat Kats show" on the description... In 10 minutes I encountered myself watching The Pastmaster always rings twice on a web xD Almost forgot, that was 4 months ago <._.>

First time?
Ahh.....

maybe when I was 8 years old(about 1997), we called it 霹靂特警貓
I remember that was gold cartoon age
I always watch TMNT, Shark street and some American-style cartoon
For Swat Kats, I only remember that was two cats, one strong and one small
they fly jet and save the city, the girl who wore glasses were beautiful!
I love that jet, it was so cool!(what a pure boy I were  )
And after 20 years, I saw T-Bone's pic on Devianart
"hey, This is SWAT Kats !! my childhood! "
And then I found Tremblay Bros wanted to make them back
So, I decide to fellow this show again
You know, as you grow up, you may yearn something classic
