Jake and Chance's salvage yard building

Post by Echo » Sat Jun 23, 2018 11:59 pm

I don't know if this has been discussed yet, but what is at the top of the building where they live? We never see the inside of the second floor and when they're watching tv while they work, they do it in the office which is inside of the service garage on the first floor. And as far as I know (or remember, for that matter), they don't even go onto the patio.

So it just begs the question, is there bedrooms on the top floor? If so, how many? Do they even sleep? NO ONE KNOWS!!!

Yeah, that's probably where their bedrooms and such are. I'd say the first floor is entirely given over to their business, while the second floor is where they actually sleep, eat, etc., their tendency to veg out and snack on the couch in what I'm assuming is the garage's waiting room notwithstanding.

It wouldn't surprise me if they have bedrooms but never actually sleep in them. Why bother going upstairs when you can sleep somewhere downstairs?

Come to think of it, they're cats. Maybe their beds look like giant cardboard boxes. I also like the idea of Jake's bed looking like an opened notebook computer and him sleeping on the "keyboard."

Actually, one possible explanation for why we don't know what's in those rooms - it could be they live like slobs and the upstairs rooms are so full of clutter they can't actually sleep in them. Maybe because they'd need a snow shovel to dig through it all, they don't even go upstairs anymore and the rooms just quietly sit there unused and posing a fire hazard. So that's why we never see what is in them. They would contain horrors that would rival anything the villains would ever produce. It's just best not to think about it.

I mean, they are full time auto mechanics and crime fighters, so keeping the place tidy may be low on their priority list.

That would explain why they didn't bother to throw out that cheap patio furniture they have sitting up there. XD

"Here there be dragons." Or just Chance's stinky socks.

Top floor is most likely the bedrooms, a kitchenette, and a bathroom... With a washer and dryer stuck somewhere.

Has anyone seen where the air compressor is? I keep searching screen caps, and al I can figure is it's at the back of the building between it and the fence. Probably on the right side. As they would need to get to it for maintenance once and awhile.

Also, the stairs to go up? (Or maybe it's a converted storage area, so ladder?)

A lot of shops have a half bath for customers... But The building looks old so maybe not.

Likely outside at the rear, leading up to an outer door.

I should have thought of that. My aunt had an apartment with outside stairs when I was little.

Strike's IRC-based "SK RPG" circa 1997 had a floor-plan graphic that they used for this. It's not canon, but it's educated guessing based on the locations shown, with some liberties taken to expand one of the game's main locales for extra characters/interactions.

That place is huge! It's like a 6 bed 5 bath place. Now you mentioned that some liberties were taken to expand some of the locales, so I would be curious to know what the original plan looks like. 4 bed 4 bath?

I wonder what was going through the minds of whoever originally built the place. Maybe they had a whole crew of workers that lived and slept on site? Or maybe they just got a killer deal on an old, dilapidated property on the outskirts of town that had plenty of room for a scrap yard to boot, and simply renovated it and added on the garage to repurpose the structure.

Maybe the house was cheap not only due to its condition and location, but also low land value from multiple environmental contaminants!

What are housing costs like in Megakat City? I could see a situation where Callie is paying through the nose for a cramped shoebox apartment downtown, while Chance and Jake get to sit on this monstrosity.

As big as this place is, I still can't make out where the waiting room is for customers. Does the break room double as that? By the way, what exactly is that room in the lower right corner in the top drawing? Are those hanging studio lights on the wall?

I have a feeling that their claws would make short work of any socks they tried to wear.
