Fanfic Recommendations?
Since this part of the board is pretty empty, I thought maybe people can post their favorite fics that they would recommend to other fans? I've been out of the fandom for a long time and I don't always have time to search over a decade's worth of fics for the good ones. Suggestions please?
This is a post for fics NOT written by you, but are high quality and worth sharing. If you want to share your own fics, give yourself a shiny new topic all it's own for your lovely writing.

Re: Fanfic Recommendations?
Choices by Pen is one of my favorites. Dark Kat's Revenge is a fun one too (can't remember who the author was though.) There's a bunch more I have bookmarked, but I can't remember them off the top of my head, so I'll have to come back and post some of those later.

Re: Fanfic Recommendations?
I don't read fan fics as much as I used to (reading in general has been challenging the last couple of years for me), but I did read Masks and found it enjoyable.

MoDaD has some good fanfictions (yes, I am flattering you MoDaD). Good character exploration and development, and some of them are quite funny too.
Certainly worth reading.

This one with Feral and Felina was poignant. LOVED IT.

Stories and Authors You Enjoy
MERGED INTO TY-CHOU'S THREAD
This started off as a reply in Mr. Goodkat's thread, but I realized it's probably better as its own topic, and that topic is STORIES AND AUTHORS YOU READ, LOVED OR ENJOYED.
What have you read? What are you reading? Are there authors you considered influential, trend-setting, or unique in some other kind of way? Was there a story you started reading and regretted never finishing? Was there a story that was unfinished that you wish the author would've completed?
The rules are:

The rules are:
- If it's a single story, it must be a SWAT Kats one. Cross-overs are okay.
- If it's an author, they have to have written at least one SWAT Kats story.
- You can make reference to another story they wrote if the previous criteria is/are met (EXAMPLE: "AUTHOR wrote this great SWAT Kats story about Dr. Viper, and she took a similar approach in her SPIDER-MAN story with The Lizard")
- If someone already mentioned an author or story you like, IT'S OKAY AND ENCOURAGED to keep talking about them/it. Feel free to agree and even offer additional insights or opinions.
- For the purposes of this thread, DON'T mention yourself or your own writings (but if you are mentioned by someone else, it's okay to give a "thanks" or answer any questions or observations someone made, but the main purpose of this thread is to point out others). The rest of the Fanfics forum is for self-promotion
- LINK TO THE AUTHOR OR STORY YOU MENTION - If you enjoyed, odds are so will others

Re: Stories and Authors You Enjoy
And, here's my initial reply:
...if you're interested in reading some SWAT Kats works by others though...
Kooshmeister has a lot of good stories that are very detail-driven, and he really combats one of the show's weaknesses by giving greater life to ancillary characters so everything's not solely focused on just the SWAT Kats - he tends to give a lot more insight and motivation for the villains which can really enhance a story.
Other authors like AkaneKitty have tried to flesh out the characters into entirely new territory by expanding on the universe into sometimes surreal but interesting directions (and also throwing in some genres we don't get to see in the show).
And then there's C.L. Furlong, who I think was studying to become a doctor or scientist or something crazy like that, who used his collegiate background to enhance the story with all kinds of stuff that was very Michael Crichton in style - his descriptions of Dr. Viper are among my favorites. I wish he was still around the fandom.
And, something more recent I read that I really enjoyed (particularly as the author, our own Ty-Chou a.k.a. Ghost of the Dawn) was able to transcend a certain type of writing that most people despise (and even wrote a litmus test for it) and turn it into something awesome, was Masks.
And, if you're interested in humor, there's one of the fandom's early founders/participants, Nick Ball (a prominent member of Strike's group), who was very quick and witty, and even though some of the references are dated (written 20 years ago) I still think it holds up, and his treatise on the show is a must-read (and downright prophetic at points, though this year one of its key points was sort of proven wrong - I need to dig that up - I have it archived somewhere, it used to be on Klawz's site).
For contemporary humor and a still active writer, you need to bookmark Kutlass and read her stuff, specifically Mayor Royale. Kutlass is an excellent writer, and extremely quick witted and smart - probably the best live action text-chat role player I've ever had the opportunity to work with, a major player in the MBI.
And, of course there's Kris, who along with DJ Clawson pretty much invented SWAT Kats fan fiction - she's easily the most influential writer in the fandom.

And YOU, Poky, that scene you wrote with a spider-headed Mac tip-tapping around trying to kill an incapacitated T-Bone in the hospital screamed urgency and hilarity all at once. Dirty little opportunist, lol. The Metallikats just have this equal threat and humor potential unlike any other boss in the series. You milked it with that situation =D
